If you aren't sure how to pick a moving and storage company to help you through your relocation, consider asking them these questions. You'll find out key information about potential movers right away.

  • Can you provide for my specific moving needs?

Depending on the situation you may need a local mover, household mover, or even corporate relocation expert.

  • Are you a fully licensed mover?

All interstate movers are required to have a United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) license. Other movers operating solely within the same state may have a state license.

  • Can I get additional valuation protection?

All movers are required to provide 'released value' protection for free. Many movers also offer additional 'full valuation coverage' which is paid, but provides full market value for lost or damaged items.

Planning is key to preparing for your next move. Whether working with local movers or an international moving company, you'll want to start preparing as soon as possible. Putting together a checklist of things you need to do before, during, and after moving day is useful.

You should also create an FF&E list of all your belongings. Organizing the list by room helps later on when unpacking in your new home. Lastly, stay in touch with your moving and storage company. Your long-distance movers can help by suggesting ways you can prep for the big day.

If long-distance movers are taking you far from home, make sure to get to know the area you are headed too. You can learn tons about communities online these days, such as:

  • Climate & Weather Trends

  • Job Outlook

  • Best Schools

  • Childcare Options

  • Good Neighborhoods

  • Pertinent Healthcare Facilities

  • Cost of Living

You can even look out for local movers in the area where you are headed to take care of your relocation. These in-town moving and storage experts are very familiar with the region you'll be going to, allowing them to complete moves quickly and safely.

Seasonality plays a significant role in moving costs and scheduling availability. Peak moving season is during the summer with warmer weather and kids out of school. This means higher moving rates and limited scheduling flexibility due to increased demand. Fall and winter are the best times to move for a more affordable and flexible move.

The earlier you schedule your move the better. Ideally, scheduling your move three months in advance is recommended. This gives you more time to plan, secure your move date, and prepare. Early booking is essential during the peak moving season in the summer. With increased demand at this time, there is less scheduling flexibility so you'll want to secure your move date in advance.

While extreme weather may affect your move, we still operate under most weather conditions. For any concerns about the weather, please contact our customer service team at clientservices@495movers.com or call directly at 301-424-4495.

With 495 Movers, we provide FREE packing supplies with every move available for pickup or delivery. This includes everything from boxes, tape, wrapping paper, and more which can end up saving you hundreds on your move.

Full payment is due upon completion of your move and all services outlined in your quote.

Unfortunately, due to varying state regulations, we do not move plants. Each state has its guidelines for pest control and may even have bands on particular plant species. Not to mention, it's very likely for plants to get damaged during the move which is why we recommend you find them a new home before moving.

Certain items are prohibited for transport, including:

  • Hazardous materials like propane tanks, ammunition, firearms, and flammable items.
  • Liquids like cooking oil, cleaning supplies, and toiletries.
  • Perishable items (although we can help pack and assist with loading/unloading them in your personal vehicle).
  • Personal valuables like jewelry, checkbooks, cash, and medication.

This is dependent upon your specific moving needs. Consider the following factors:

  • The overall volume or weight of your belongings.
  • Large or bulky items that require special handling.
  • Location accessibility (stairs, elevators, etc.)

This is dependent upon your destination and desired day of arrival. Please note that weather can have an impact on the delivery time of your belongings leading to potential delays. If you have any concerns about the delivery of your belongings please reach out to Client Services via email clientservices@495movers.com or call directly at 301-424-4495.

There are multiple factors to consider when choosing a moving company that is trustworthy, experienced, and insured. Look at things like licensing and insurance, experience, and customer reviews. For more tips on how to find a reliable mover, keep reading here.
